Housing building for youth organized around different stages for socialisation
TERROIR In partnership with CUBO Arkitekter won the competition to design this building which arose from a subsidised housing scheme for young residents in the north harbour area of Aarhus, Denmark.
This economical project is formed as a concrete mass on the concrete apron of the waterfront, Its blunt mass and detailing appealed to the competition jury, who noted: “The formal expression is genuinely original and atypical, and beyond historical reference.”
Carving large incisions into the concrete monolith set up a dialogue between an uncompromising urban form and what it contains, revealing glimpses of a dynamic, colourful inner self through which these cuts are connected. The jury found these cuts “open the box to show its varied and colourful inner confirms this as a building for young people in the new part of the city.”
